I’ve seen this someplace before…
Posted on August 27th, 2009 No commentsSwiped this one from William Gibsons tweets, but, i gotta say it’s reminiscent of things i’ve found on the forest floor. Though, usually once you start them singing, they keep going all night long.

Hear the pounding army of the night. The call of metal summons us tonight

Classic Camp

A classic camp picture from the wayback. There’s nothing softer than sleeping on sand. There’s nothing better than catching your own dinner. There’s nothing better than pulling a wagon full of beer and ice for miles and miles and miles.

Green Flash at Sunset
Posted on August 18th, 2009 No comments
If you sit by the ocean and watch the sun go down, you might be lucky enough to see a green flash. I’ve always assumed it was the light shining through the ocean water, like a stained glass window. I’ve always wanted to believe it was energy dissipation as dimensional tides crushed inward on an energetic pathway, unable to sustain itself without a constant solar wind. -
A nod to the past captains of the ship

As I put more distance on this old frame of mine, it’s easy to forget or play down the impact of the old school. For instance, if I was given the choice of seeing Farflung or White Hills playing live while I was completely wrapped in duct tape and lit on fire, or seeing the remaining members of the Grateful Dead play a springtime show in an old-growth glade, I’d totally pick Farflung or White Hills. But, there was a time when the GD were at the helm of the ship, and I gotta say they did a damn good job steering us through the nebula and out through the crystal edges of open space. The mix below (from Aurthurmag) contains some pretty freakin’ awesome tracks. I’ll be saying thanks the next time I see an afterimage tracer that’s going in it’s own direction.

Add to the list of things I’d rather be doing today
Posted on August 17th, 2009 1 commentIt’s hard to say anything witty about this one – a dude who’s obviously got it all together, cuz he’s gaming on TV, with girls in robes. It is an honor to have someone to look up to in this age of reduced expectations.

The architecture of the Hall brings awe and reverence to the un-initiated. -
Smoking the Green
Posted on August 13th, 2009 No commentsThe Burn Ban made a dent in the ritual fire, but we were able to utilize modern technology to present flesh and harvest offerings to the sky.
While vegetables don’t provide any necessary wilderness nutrients (ala whiskey, meat, and beer), they are a quaint way to fill a plate.

When the drapes match the carpet

The July Camp was bizzare in many ways. The most striking of course was that it wasn’t winter. Camping when it’s hot out is quite a waste of time – your bag stays packed, the raingear folded, food becomes a matter of taste rather than survival, and the keg refuses to stay cold without the addition of ice. That said, there are interesting things in the woods in the summer, besides mosquitos. This picture shows strange “leaves” on the trees and a flourishing undergrowth. Apparently the brown sticks of winter camping turn into plants in the summer.

Winter Morning Wood
Posted on August 11th, 2009 No commentsWinter Camping this year will include the most epic fire yet. This area of blowdown is several hundred feet from the fire pit, and has been seasoning all summer. I envision we could do a log cabin lay 20-30 feet high. That is, if TempleBallz and Cups the Irrational Snowman bother to bring their technical expertise. (Note the 2 logs in the foreground that we had to cut to clear the road into the site).
